Santa Cruz lies far from the Altiplano, in the huge eastern lowland of Bolivia. The city is rapidly becoming the center of the country's economic growth. At a height of just 416m above sealevel, the city has a tropical climate and ambiance. The rapid economic development has not affected the colonial character of the old back streets in the old center. There are no real highlights in the city itself; Santa Cruz mainly attracts visitors due to its international airport, its train connection (tren de los muertos) with Brazil. Moreover, the nearby Amboro National Park and the city of Samaipata (with the pre-Columbian fortress 'El Fuerte') make it an ideal stopover.
The Noel Kemoff National Park is onne of South America 's most spectacular parks and hosts a range of animal and plant species unmatched almost anywhere else in the world. Amazonian forests, spectacular waterfalls and bizarre looking mountain ranges can all be founf within it. The park protects 7 different ecosystems, the highest number in any single protected area on earth. The park is located in the remote northeast corner of the country. Access is rather limited and complicated making it one of the last untouched areas on earth.
Day 1: Santa Cruz - Noel Kempff National Parks:
You start the trip in the morning with a transfer to the airport, our chartered flight will bring you to Flor de Oro on the Brazilian border. Along the route, we will fly over pristine forest area, highland plateaus and two impressive waterfalls. On arrival, we will continue by boat on the Itenez River to our first camp. Once settled in the camp you will have lunch and spend the afternoon exploring gallery forests and large expanses of savanna along the Itenez river. With a bit of luck you should be able to see Toucans, the White Woodpecker and a large variety of mammals such as the Coati Mundi and Silvery Marmoset. We will have diner at the camp.
Day 2: Noel Kempff National Park:
After breakfast, you will be guided through some pristine gallery forests en route to one of the bays located close to Flor de Oro, where motorized boats will be waiting to take you to the black waters of the local lakes and rivers. During the trip, you will have the opportunity to spot animals like the Tiger-Heron, Blue- and Yellow Macaw, Sun Bittern and with some luck a family of giant otters. We will return to our camp, have lunch and some time to relax. The afternoon will be spent traveling to Las Torres, a park protection station that gives access to a rocky outcrop, providing amazing views of the Caparú Plateau and the humid tropical rain forest found in the northern section of the park. Jaguars have been spotted more that five times along the river to Las Torres so you have to keep alert!.
Day 3: Noel Kempff National Park:
This day offers you the opportunity to observe a great variety of fauna such as the Horned Sungem, Black and Tawny Seedeater, Red-necked Aracari, and the snow-capped Manakin. With some luck you should be able to spot Black Spider Monkeys and Tapirs. There are two options for this day:
Day 4: Noel Kempff National Park - Santa Cruz:
The final morning will take us in search of some of the species that may have eluded us during the previous days. Following this you will have a late breakfast after which, you shall take the plane back to Santa Cruz

The Amboro National Park has a unique geographic position between the Amazon basin, the Chaco and the Andes. Three completely different ecosystems. It is Bolivia 's best-known protected area and one of the last untouched wildernesses on earth. Examples of animals one can encounter include the almost extinct spectacled bear, jaguars, capybaras, giant river otters, tapirs, and various species of monkeys. Over 700 species of birds have been identified here, including the endangered razor-billed curassow and blue-horned curassow. Due to the relative proximity of the high Andes, Condors are frequent guests at the park.
Day 1:
Pick-up from your hotel or the Santa Cruz airport and transfer to the national park. Along the way we will pass through little towns such as Montero, Warnes and Buena Vista. We will enter the Amboro National Park, walking to the Mataracu community where you will have lunch and set up your camp. In the afternoon, we will do our first jungle trail towards the Puerto Picon waterfalls, where you can swim in natural pools to refresh before continuing for the next trek through the forest. At night, after diner, you will have the opportunity to go on a night walking tour.
Day 2:
After breakfast and a refreshing bath in some nearby natural pools, we will start a 3 hour hike exploring the jungle and looking for a good place to set up our second camp. Lunch will be served once the camp is settled. In the afternoon, you can start exploring again, this time without backpacks. After dinner at the camp, you will have an optional night walk.
Day 3:
