Why travel to Sucre
Time seems to stand still in this pleasant city which functions as the official (judicial) capital of Bolivia. The city center is a huge living museum in itself, boasting numerous colonial churches and ancient mansions, both with outstanding examples of Baroque art. Nicknamed the White City for its gleaming downtown colonial buildings, Sucre is featured on the list of Patrimony of Mankind declared by UNESCO.
Widely considered to be the most beautiful city in Bolivia, Sucre is also one of the cheapest capital cities in Latin America, allowing you to enjoy all the conveniences of a large city at a budget price.
What to do in Sucre
City tour. Interesting places to visit, among others, are the convent of Recoleta (established by the Franciscan order in 1601), the textile museum, and the Casa de la Libertad (where Bolivian independence was declared in 1825). Another interesting site is found a couple of miles outside Sucre, the former mansion of the wealthy Argandoña family. After an extended tour through Europe, Don Francisco Argandoña decided to build a palace reflecting the various architectural styles he encountered overseas. Although the place has been neglected for years (currently in restoration), it still is an interesting site to visit. An increasingly popular site to tour is the dinosaur tracks, just a mile out of town at the Fanseca factory.
When to visit Sucre
One can visit Sucre during the whole year; the temperature tends to be cool year-round. The dry season (winter) lasts from May to October and is typically the best time to visit. The rainy season lasts from December until March.
Travel Testimonials
Peru For Less hooked us up with all the tools and plans to have an unforgettable experience. We toured Lake Titicaca, which was fascinating, especially the floating islands of Uros. The main part of Bolivia that I highly recommend is the Salt Flats of Uyuni. It's like being on another planet. We spent two days driving on and around the flats in a four runner with a guide and a driver. I couldn't recommend Peru For Less more if you're planning a trip to Peru or Bolivia.

Thank you for an excellently organized trip to Peru and Bolivia. The Bolivian experience including Lake Titicaca, and tortora boat visit to Tiwanaku ruins was a different (high altitude!) experience. The unforgettable decent from high Regal Cordilleras and the La Cumbre Pass (4,650 meters a.s.l.) to a steamy Yungas tropical rain forest at only 1,500 meters a.s.l. and a visit to small town of Coroico was very interesting. All in all, the itinerary was followed closely and punctually and all local tour guides were very professional and informative.
