Known as the city of eternal spring, Arica is only 30 miles south of the southern Peruvian border. This city features some of the nicest beaches in Chile . In addition to this, it was the center of a number of pre-Colombian Indian cultures and in its museums, mummies can be found that pre-date the Egyptians by 2,000 years. Arica is the starting point for visiting the valleys of Azapa and Lluta, Lake Chungara and the small villages of Socoroma, Putre and Parinacota.
You will undertake a tour of the main natural and cultural attractions of the city. You visit the Chinchorro and the El Laucho beaches, El Morro (nice view of the city), the San Marcos Cathedral and La Casa de la Cultura ; both designed by Gustav Eiffel. The tour concludes with shopping time in the artisan village.

This museum is part of the University of Tarapacá and well worth a visit. The museum contains a fine collection of Pre-Columbian weaving, pottery, woodcarving and basketwork from the coast as well as seven mummified humans from the Chinchorro culture (8,000-10,000 BC), the most ancient mummies yet discovered.

With a surface of 137,883 hectares, this international biosphere reserve covers the pre-cordillera and the altiplano of the northeast end of the region of Tarapacá. It has a dry climate with very marked day and night thermal variations. This park is well known for being home to a great wealth of flora and fauna and its highly interesting cultural, historical and wild beauty sites. More than 130 different bird species live in this park, in addition to the distinctive vicuñas, vizcachas, and condors. A major attraction of the park is the astonishing Chungara Lake, one of the most elevated in the world, located at the foot of the Payachata twin volcanoes.
