
Set along the Pan American Highway, La Serena (pop. 107,000) has become a beach resort popular with wealthy Chileans and Argentineans. La Serena is one of the fastest growing tourist areas in Chile . It is known for the beauty of its colonial and neo colonial architecture. It also has one of the largest handicraft markets in the area where you can find the unique Indian pottery of the Diaguitas Indians, with woolens and articles made of the beautiful Guayacan wood. It also has great beaches and modern hotels.
You will be collected from your hotel and taken to visit the Elqui Valley , known for its mystic energy and clean skies. We will see the papaya and grape plantations on the way to Vicuña, where we will visit a pisco distillery, one of Chile 's most famous spirits. You will learn about the life and work of Gabriela Mistral (a poet born in the area), who obtained the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1945. Return to the hotel in the afternoon.

Experience this fascinating place yourself as you wonder at the stars trough the lens of an observatory telescope.
Day 1:
You will undertake a scenic drive through the Andes to the lovely colonial city of Vicuña. You can visit the Pisco distillery while going for a walk and discover the archeological museum and the center of the town. Dinner will be around 7:30 p.m. Following this you will head to the observatory Mamalluca. The tour through the observatory lasts about two hours, and you will have the use of a telescope to observe all the stars you want at your leisure. You will overnight in a nice hotel in Vicuña.
Day 2:
After breakfast in your hotel in Vicuña you will be collected for a short trip to La Serena. After this you shall be transferred to the airport for your flight home, or your flight on to your next destination. The journey from Vicuña to La Serena takes approximately 50 minutes.
Your departure to the Mamalluca Observatory will take place in the early evening. 70 Km from La Serena and not far from Vicuña, the Mamalluca Observatory is a place where visitors are invited to watch the stars and attend a lecture given by professional astronomers who will explain all the phenomena visible from this observatory.

After being collected from your hotel you will head for Caleta Punta de Choros, almost 140 Km north of La Serena , where the National Reservation of Humboldt Penguins is located. A tour guide from the park will give a brief introduction to this interesting place before you board a boat to navigate towards both the Choros and Damas islands. These islands are famous for the penguins, sea wolves, and dolphins that you will observe during the tour.

This horse-riding adventure trip is for absolute beginners as well as experienced riders. You will be led through the Sierra Morrillos starting from the Hacienda. Good-natured Chilean mountain horses will carry you in a comfortable Gaucho-saddle on old paths across plateaus and through canyons to the fascinating Andean landscape. In the afternoon, after having arrived at our 1000 acres Hacienda, our little paradise will be at your disposal: hiking trails, lonely beaches along the river, Jacuzzi and sauna, palm gardens and cozy moments in front of the fireplace will all be at your disposal.
Day 1:
At 1:00 pm, we pick you up. It takes about two hours to reach the Hacienda passing the wild mountainous landscape. You will be able to discover wildly romantic places to swim along the river, pick exotic fruit, or relax under the olive groves. You may also pick some wild herbs for a tea. For the preParatyon of the meals we use fresh ingredients that come from both local and our own cultivations. After dinner, you can enjoy the rest of the day in the garden under a starlit night sky and have a glass of Chilean red wine.
Day 2:
At about 9:30 am, you will start preParatyons for the Andean riding trip. Our German, English and Spanish speaking team will acquaint you with the riding horses, the riding style and any safety precautions. At about 10:30 am, we start climbing the Andes leaving behind the Sierra Morrillos. Crystal-clear air allows magical views far down the valleys of the Andes. There will be enough time to take pictures and a picnic is served in the shade of the ancient Algarobo trees. At about 3:00 pm, you will return back to the Hacienda in the green valley of Vado Morrillos . There will be enough time to have a wash or a swim in the river before you return at 4:00 pm to Vicuña or Ovalle passing the wild mountain scenery on the Scenic-Drive.
