A relatively young island in terms of geology and discovery, the oldest island of the Galapagos is some 6.5 million years old, with the Bishop of Panama accidentally finding the archipelago in 1535. This “late” discovery left the Galapagos practically untouched for centuries and is responsible for the non-fearful creatures that populate the remarkable islands.
