New Water Fountains in Lima set Guinness World Record

The Magical Water Tour in Lima’s Parque de la Reserva was inaugurated on July 26. It has already been recognized by Guinness Records as the public park with the largest fountain complex in the world, consisting of 13 fountains, one of which shoots water over 80 meters up in the air.

Lima’s new fountains
Lima’s new fountains have broken a Guinness World Record.

President Alan Garcia congratulated Lima’s Mayor Luis Castañeda for having headed the construction and stated he believes the fountains will quickly become a main tourist attraction and contribute to the country’s image. President Garcia said it would be a place of reflection and inspiration due to the vibrant colors, lighting, music and utter beauty of the fountains.

On July 28th, 2007, in honor of Peru’s 186th Independence Day, 2,000 liters of pisco, Peru’s national alcoholic beverage, flowed from the fountain in the Plaza de Armas in historic downtown Lima. Many joined the celebration and savored this Peruvian drink in its four main variations: Quebranta, Italia, Acholado, and Mosto Verde. Chalanes, traditional Peruvian horse trainers and riders, and Peruvian Paso horses made their way down to the Main Plaza at about 3 pm. There they took part in grand Criollo event, together with musical artists such as Bartola and Peru Negro. The event lasted until 11:30pm and culminated in a splendid display of fireworks. The first “Fountain of Pisco” event was held in July 2004.
