Three new exits paths to be inaugurated in Machu Picchu

The majestic Inca Citadel, Machu Picchu, is to inaugurate three new exit routes, leading from the heart of the ruins back to the local town of Aguas Calientes. These will provide new, alternative hiking opportunities for travelers seeking an additional adventure when returning from their visit to the ruins, as well as helping prevent the congestion of the ever-increasing inflow of visitors seeking to explore this new Wonder of the World.

Ruins Machu Picchu
The new paths will provide new exciting possibilities for tourists willing to take a
hike back from the ruins!

The first exit will be located on the northeastern platforms of the mountain, which comprises part of the ‘Templo Del Condor’ (Temple of the Condor). The newly inaugurated Inca path will lead from the ruins to a beautiful local museum in the village of Aguas Calientes, at the bed of the colossal mountain.

The second new exit leads from the Callancas sector, along another Inca path, into Aguas Calientes, where travelers may prepare for departure by train.

Finally, a third route begins on the magnificent Huayna Picchu mountain to cater to the adventurous few returning from their climb, taking them on a path leading to the ‘Templo de la Luna’ (Temple of the Moon) and then to the archeological site of Inca Racay, before finally reaching the village of Aguas Calientes.

With the addition of these three new exits, Machu Picchu hopes to alleviate some of the overcrowding found during high season and preserve the integrity of this historically invaluable treasure. This task is paramount, given that the numbers of visitors exploring the ruins are likely to increase in the future for this newly proclaimed Wonder of the World.
