Women Leaders around the World Convene in Argentina
On May 7th, influential women from around the world gathered in Argentina for a seminar held by the International Women’s Forum (IWF). The theme was ‘Women in power: a new leadership’ with globalization and poverty eradication being the main topics as well as political instability and global trade perspectives. The seminar lasted two days and was attended by 500 high-ranking women leaders from across the globe and from all walks of life.
The International Women’s Forum was founded in 1982 in the United States. After 26 years, the IWF now unites 4,300 powerful women from 22 countries from North America, Latin America, the Caribbean, Asia, the Pacific Basin, Europe, Africa and the Middle East. With aspirations to expand women's leadership across professions, cultures and continents by joining women of momentous and diverse accomplishment, IWF women exchange wisdom and ideas to enhance one another’s lives, to offer support, and to exert influence.
Head of the IWF's 30-member Argentina division, senator Maria Eugenia Estenssoro, said that the choice of South America as the location for the seminar is due to the "important leadership [roles] women are having in the continent”.
