Mystery illness strikes after fiery crash from space near Peruvian village

Around midday Saturday September 15 villagers of Carancas, located in the high Andes department of Puno, Peru near the border with Bolivia, were startled by a fireball falling from the sky and crashing into the ground with a loud explosion. The crashing object left a 100 foot wide and 20 foot deep crater.

Villagers that went to the site of the crash complained of headaches and vomiting brought on by a strange odor. Local health department official Jorge Lopez said that the policemen that were sent to the site to check on the reports also became ill and had to be given oxygen before being hospitalized. Authorities think the symptoms could be due to radiation from the space object.

Scientists that went to the site reported the object was a chondrite meteorite, however Russian daily, Pravda, reported the object as a North American spy satellite targeting Iran. According to the Russian daily, Russian Military Intelligence Analysts reported that the U.S. spy satellite KH-13 was destroyed in its orbit with its main power generator surviving re-entry and crashing in Peru. They said the sicknesses caused in Puno were due to the radiation in the generator. Pravda reported that the U.S. destroyed the spy satellite themselves by having the United States Air Forces' 30th Space Wing located at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California make the attack. Italian daily, Corriere della Sera published the same report.
