Day 1 : Arrival to Iquitos & Cruise Launch

- Upon arrival in Iquitos, you will be picked up from the airport and transferred to Nauta where the Delfin I is docked. Once aboard, you will have time to settle in and rest before the evening meal is served in the ship’s cozy dining room. Delfin I offers an exquisite culinary experience with a delicious gourmet menu of Amazonian-Peruvian dishes.
- In the evening, you will receive a briefing that outlines the details of the journey aboard the Delfin I as well as the history and geography of the Amazon Basin. The remainder of the evening is free. Mingle with your fellow travelers, listen to live music performed by the boat staff, and enjoy your breathtaking surroundings.
Day 2 : Belluda Cano & El Dorado River

- Dawn and dusk on the Amazon River are ideal times for nature observation, so you will rise early, enjoy a filling breakfast, and set off on your first Amazon exploration. Specific activities vary by season.
- In the rainy season (December to May), you board a skiff and set sail on the dark-hued waters of the Belluda Stream for a tour to Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, the largest protected wetland reserve in the world. Here you’ll spot spectacular wildlife including parrots, macaws, and monkeys, as well as various types of birds and butterflies.
- In the dry season (June to November), enjoy a hike from the Belluda Cano community to a lovely lagoon. The various ecosystems include flooded forest and terra firme forest and you’ll have a chance to encounter many wild species. After an hour, you board canoes that will take you across the waters of a beautiful secluded lagoon. Hike back to the skiffs to continue your journey.
- After lunch back on the Delfin I, you will hop back on the skiffs for the ride to El Dorado River and one of the best observation spots in the reserve, where you can also enjoy the unique experience of watching and swimming alongside gray and pink river dolphins. Admire squirrel monkeys flitting through trees, iguanas laying in the sun, and many more animals.
- Head back to the Delfin I for an exquisite dinner and relaxing evening aboard. Look up at the sky where millions of stars put on a light show over the river.
Day 3 : Rio Pacaya & Atun Poza Lake River

- Wake up at dawn and enjoy breakfast aboard the skiffs taking you to the Pacaya River, at the very heart of the reserve. Filled with lakes, palm swamps, and streams, the flooded forest is a truly magical sight during the rainy season. Today’s morning expedition takes you to Atun Poza Lake, where you will enjoy one of two options depending on the season.
- In the rainy season, you will ride a skiff along Lake Atun Poza, where you will be able to surprise several species of egrets, herons, hawks, long-legged neo-tropical cormorants, and unusual and loud horned screamers. You will also have a chance to explore other black water lagoons linked to this gigantic lake, where wattled jacanas compete with a wide variety of spiders.
- In the dry season, you will take a hike through the pristine and unique ecosystem surrounding Lake Atun Poza, passing through classic tropical rainforest, one of the richest habitats on earth. Look for giant ceiba or kapok trees, enormous otters, and the wide variety of birds which call the rainforest home.
- During lunch, your Amazon cruise reaches the very heart of the Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve. Aboard a skiff, you can admire the abundant wildlife and immerse yourself in the surrounding rainforest wilderness. Look out for different species of monkeys, such as small families of red howler monkeys, the largest in the Amazon basin, sporting bright rust-colored fur coats and long tails. The highlight of the evening is the “forest of reflections,” when the black waters of the river serve as a mirror for the many colors of the setting sun.
- Enjoy a relaxing dinner and evening aboard Delfin I, taking advantage of its luxurious amenities.
Day 4 : Lagoon & Jungle Hike

- Wake up early and enjoy a generous breakfast before heading out on a new Amazonian adventure. Your specific expedition depends on the season.
- In the rainy season, you will depart aboard the skiffs for a fishing adventure at Caro Curahuayte, a spectacular spot where you can expect to catch many piranhas. The rainy season is the perfect time to go as the forest is flooded and many fish swim among the floating tree trunks.
- In the dry season, you will head out on a shore-bird searching adventure. When the river is very low, broad white sandy beaches emerge, creating a special ecosystem that harbors sandpipers, terns that hover and dive to catch fish, black skimmers with their peculiar low flight over the water’s surface, egrets, jabirus, wood storks, and king fishers.
- After a delicious and satisfying lunch aboard the Delfin I, you will have the chance to visit the native riverside community of Yanallpana, and meet some of the villagers to learn about their unique way of life.
- In the late afternoon, you will head back to the Delfin I where you can rest and enjoy a briefing by the professional naturalists on board, who will tell you all about the various species living in this region. As the ship starts sailing through the black streams, you will enjoy a delicious farewell dinner while the staff treats you to soothing live music.
Day 5 : Yarapa River & Departure from Iquitos

- For the last day of your exciting Amazon Cruise aboard the Delfin I, you will wake up early to enjoy breakfast before taking the skiffs on the Yarapa River to Puerto Miguel, a native village where you will have the chance to meet some of the locals, learn about their culture, and hear about their traditions and folklore.
- Back aboard the vessel, enjoy a last gourmet lunch and pack up your belongings before disembarking in Nauta where you will visit the Manatee Rescue Center to admire the beautiful river creatures.
- You will then be transferred to the Iquitos airport for your flight to Lima.
*Depending on weather conditions, an optional kayak excursion can be arranged before departure to Lima. Activities include catch & release fishing and paddling.
**Cruises depart on Wednesdays and return on Sundays.
***All activities are subject to change due to weather conditions and time of year. River and tributary levels may vary and navigation times and excursions may need to be modified at the captain’s discretion.
