Day 1 : Arrival to Puerto Maldonado & Transfer to Wasai Tambopata Lodge

- A Peru For Less representative will meet you at the Puerto Maldonado airport and take you to the Wasai Maldonado Lodge in town. You’ll enjoy tropical refreshments and hear a brief overview of your jungle vacation.
- You’ll then venture down the river on a 3 to 4 hour boat journey to the Wasai Tambopata Lodge, deep in the heart of the jungle.
- Upon arrival you’ll eat lunch and have some time to settle into your room and explore the lodge area.
- In the late afternoon you will go on a guided tour of the jungle surrounding the lodge. This introductory walk will orient you to life in the jungle and you’ll learn some basic facts about the Amazon rainforest.
- After dinner at the lodge, you’ll head out on a night hike to observe the nocturnal life of insects, frogs, and other night-active animals. If this is your first time in the jungle, you’re sure to be impressed by all the night sounds.
Day 2 : Wildlife Hike in Bahuaja Sonene National Park

- Today will be an action-packed day. You’ll begin with a short early morning walk to the nearby clay lick “El Chuncho.” This is the favorite hangout for parrots, parakeets, and macaws. Sit back and watch the wildlife while enjoying a small snack. Then you will be able to walk along the river banks to spot more exciting wildlife.
- On the way back to the lodge, you can choose to visit a local native community.
- After a late breakfast at the lodge, you will have the chance to rest or head out to the river for a kayak ride, which provides an opportunity to experience the beautiful landscapes of the Amazon and to spot wildlife. If the weather permits, you may even go swimming in the “natural Jacuzzi” at the Cascadas del Gato (Cat Waterfalls). Alternatively, you can choose among various other adventure activities provided by Wasai Lodge.
- Eat lunch back at the lodge before heading on an ethno-botanical walk through the rainforest. Your expert guide will teach you about medicinal plants and their uses.
- You’ll return to the lodge for dinner and can opt to take a night hike to search for the majestic black caiman, a relative of the alligator.
*Note: Price of adventure activities such as kayaking, zip lining, and tree climbing is not included
Day 3 : Transfer to Wasai Maldonado or Departure from Amazon

Itineraries vary based on selection of a 3-day or 4-day Amazon adventure.
3-day Itinerary
- After breakfast, you’ll travel by boat back to Puerto Maldonado where a representative will take you from the dock to the airport for your journey home or on to your next destination.
4-day Itinerary
- If you are spending 4 days in the Amazon, you’ll go to the Wasai Maldonado Lodge to enjoy a different area of the Amazon.
- After lunch at the lodge, you will choose from several different jungle activities. You may decide to visit Lake Sandoval, a beautiful rainforest oxbow lake. Here you can canoe on the lake, hike around it, and even take a swim. You might see herons, monkey, otters, or caiman. If you want, you may stay at the lake for sunset before returning to the Wasai Maldonado Lodge.
- Enjoy dinner at the lodge and either relax in your bungalow or explore the city of Puerto Maldonado.
Day 4 : Departure from Puerto Maldonado

- After breakfast, a Peru For Less representative will take you to the airport for your journey home or on to your next destination.
