This Peru package to the Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu, and Cusco was specially designed by the Director of Peru For Less, Bernard Schleien.
“From my experience, constantly traveling to Cusco, and having lived there, and after being in touch with thousands of travelers, this is the best possible itinerary I could come up with,” he said. “I like this itinerary so much that I named it after my grandmother, Rosalia, who was born in 1920, and still lives in a small town outside of Cusco.”
This package is similar to our Heart of the Inca itinerary, but includes several extra days in Cusco and the Sacred Valley. This allows for a slower-paced, more thorough travel experience for travelers who really want to get to know the region in depth.

Day 1 : Arrival to Cusco

- Upon arrival to the Cusco airport, you will be met by a Peru For Less representative who will take you to your comfortable hotel in the Sacred Valley. The Cusco airport is 1.5 to 2 hours from the towns of Urubamba and Ollantaytambo. Check in to your hotel, relax, and begin to soak up the serene environment of the gorgeous Sacred Valley.
Day 2 : Private Sacred Valley Tour

- Explore the magical Peruvian countryside during a private full-day Sacred Valley tour. First you will visit the town of Pisac, which hosts a lively market where you can browse displays of beautiful Andean handicrafts, garments, and jewelry.
- Next you will visit Ollantaytambo, a settlement that dates back to Inca times. This tiny village is one of the most picturesque in the Sacred Valley. Climb to the top of its ancient ruins and be rewarded with an incredible view. Originally the royal estate of Inca Emperor Pachacuti, Ollantaytambo later served as a stronghold for Manco Inca Yupanqui in the Inca’s initial rebellion against the Spanish.
- In the late afternoon, you will return to your comfortable Sacred Valley hotel where you can spend the evening at your leisure.
Day 3 : Private Moray & Maras Tour

- After breakfast at your hotel, your guide will meet you to embark on a fascinating tour to two of the area’s most unique sites: Moray and Maras.
- Moray is believed to have been an agricultural research center for the Inca Empire. You will see circular stone terraces that spiral down into the ground. Layer after layer, you will descend until you reach the deepest terrace at the bottom.
- At Maras, you will see the salt flats, an astounding spectacle of numerous white pools of drying salt. These were used by the Incas to extract natural salt from the mountain stream and they continue to be used by the Maras community today.
- In the afternoon, you’ll return to your Sacred Valley hotel for another tranquil evening.
Day 4 : Private Machu Picchu Tour

- This morning you will take a ride aboard the first-class Vistadome train to the hidden temple of the Incas: Machu Picchu. The train ride is an attraction in itself, as it takes you through stunning and varied scenery, providing a real sense of Peru’s diverse geography.
- Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes, the town near Machu Picchu, you will head to the bus station for the 20-minute ride up to the secluded citadel, where you will enjoy a private tour of the ruins with an expert guide.
- After your tour, you can wander the site on your own. From the Royal Sector you can look straight toward the ceremonial baths and the Temple of the Sun. A maze of terraces and stone steps connect the citadel’s different sectors and lead to artistically constructed temples and buildings. Check out our Machu Picchu Travel Guide for more information.
- In the afternoon, you’ll return to Aguas Calientes, where you will spend the night.
Day 5 : Machu Picchu Free Day

- Today you can sleep in and relax, or wake up early to return to the Machu Picchu citadel. If you’re up for it, you may want to climb to the top of the majestic Huayna Picchu Mountain for a great view of the entire ruins. Consult with your travel advisor for availability as tickets for Huayna Picchu are limited.
- Once you’ve had your fill of this wonder, you’ll catch the return train from Aguas Calientes to Cusco, where you can check into your hotel and spend the evening at your leisure. For nightlife options, see our Cusco travel guide.
Day 6 : Private Cusco Tour

- Enjoy breakfast at your hotel and spend the morning at your own pace. You can visit museums, wander around Cusco’s historic streets, or simply relax before your private Cusco tour in the afternoon.
- In the early afternoon, you’ll meet your guide to start your Cusco tour. Included on this tour are the best archeological sites and attractions in and around the city. You’ll stop by the Cathedral on the Plaza de Armas and Santo Domingo Church, the former site of the Inca’s Temple of the Sun. You’ll then continue to Cusco’s outskirts to visit the sites of Q'enko, Puka Pukara, and Tambomachay.
- Return to your hotel in the late afternoon. For ideas about how to spend the evening, check out our Cusco Travel Guide.
Day 7 : Horseback Tour & Folk Show

- Today you'll enjoy a private half-day horseback riding tour in the beautiful hills surrounding Cusco. During the tour, you will stop to explore the Sacsayhuaman ruins and other archaeological sites.
- In the evening, you’ll enjoy a delicious traditional Peruvian dinner, along with a folkloric music and dance presentation. The performance showcases traditional Andean music and costumes to create a memorably colorful spectacle.
Day 8 : Departure from Cusco

- After breakfast at your hotel, one of our representatives will meet you at your hotel and take you to the airport for your journey home or on to your next destination.
- Alternatively, choose one of our other exciting Cusco tours or Sacred Valley tours, or see our full range of Peru travel destinations to see how you can extend your Peru vacation.

Maras Moray Salt Mines Full Day Tour
The Inca archaeological site of Moray is the oldest known horticultural experimental center in the world. Each terraced level has a different micro-climate in which different crops can be grown. The circular terraces descend to 492 feet (150 meters) and the temperature difference between the upper and lower terraces is up to 59F (15C).
Maras, 4 km from Moray, is the site of pre-Inca salineras (salt ponds).
