Discover the best of the Andes on this exciting Ecuador tour. From the Andean capital of Quito you will head south through the mountains to the highest active volcano in the world, Cotopaxi, and then continue on to the lush mountain town of Baños famous for its waterfalls and thermal baths. You will return to Quito for your flight to Cuenca, arguably the most beautiful city in the country, before ending your tour in the coastal city of Guayaquil.
This route will allow you to explore the colonial architecture of UNESCO World Heritage Site Quito, Ecuador’s capital surrounded by volcanoes, and arguably one of the most spectacular settings of any city on the planet. Cotopaxi will inspire you to reach new heights with its perfect snow-capped cone before you head to Baños, the outdoor playground of South America. Cruising along the stunning highway of waterfalls in Baños and hiking through sub-tropical terrain is only made better by relaxing in some of the natural hot springs throughout the small town under an Andean night sky.
Once you have had your fill of Baños, you will fly over the Andes to Cuenca, a pleasant and flower-filled colonial city famous for its picturesque streets, UNESCO recognition, and the production of some of the finest Panama hats in the world. Nearby, the Cajas National Park will enchant you with its diverse landscapes full of lakes and ponds offering countless hiking opportunities and varieties of flora and fauna. You will end this tour in Guayaquil, the lively coastal city known as the entertainment capital of Ecuador.

Day 1 : Arrival to Quito & Quito Tour
- You will be picked up from the airport by a Peru For Less representative and transferred to your comfortable Quito Hotel.
- You will be free to try one of our optional tours listed below or relax at your hotel and acclimate to the altitude. In the evening, you may want to try one of the excellent restaurants that are located in the modern part of Quito, and catch a glimpse of the city’s vibrant nightlife.
Day 2 : Cotopaxi Tour & Baños Waterfall Tour
- After breakfast at your Quito hotel, you and your guide will begin the scenic drive to Cotopaxi National Park, winding through the “Avenue of Volcanoes” and its towering peaks lining the road. With its perfect snow-covered cone, Cotopaxi Volcano is one of the main landmarks in Ecuador and the highest active volcano in the world.
- The diverse landscape is rich with various flora and fauna and you will have a chance to spot chuquiragua (Mountaineer´s flower), wild horses, llamas, and deer. You will also get the opportunity to visit Limpiopungo Lake, near Rumiñahui volcano, or take a scenic hike before eating lunch in a traditional hacienda (optional).
- In the afternoon, you will arrive in the charming city of Baños, nestled between the Rio Pastaza and the Tungurahua volcano, and check into your comfortable Baños Hotel.
- After a short tour of the city center, you will begin the route of waterfalls which includes some of the most spectacular falls in the region: Agoyan, Puertas del Cielo (Heaven’s Door), Manto de la Novia (Wedding Veil), Pailón del Diablo (Devil’s Cauldron), Machay, and many more. There you will have the opportunity to ride the new cable car that takes you right over the waterfalls (Manto de la Novia), giving you unique views from above.
- The rest of the day is free for you to enjoy the laid back atmosphere of Baños, perhaps soaking in some of the natural thermal baths that have made this city famous.
Day 3 : Baños Waterfall Tour & Arrival to Cuenca
- Today, after breakfast at your Baños hotel, you will start your journey toward Cuenca, an incredibly scenic route through rolling hills, staggering peaks, and traditional villages. The highlight, of course, is passing the impressive Chimborazo Volcano, Ecuador’s highest peak. Chimborazo's majestic summit rises up to the impressive height of 20,700 feet (6,310 meters). The extinct volcano is widely considered to be the highest mountain on Earth, which it is if you measure its height from the center of the planet.
- Later on, you will arrive to the lovely colonial city of Cuenca and check into your comfortable Cuenca Hotel. You will have the rest of the day to relax and explore the city on your own.
Day 4 : Cuenca Tour, Cajas National Park & Arrival to Guayaquil
- Although Cuenca is Ecuador's third largest city, it still retains its pleasant provincial air. Red tiled roofs, cobblestone streets, flowery plazas and numerous museums create a very pleasant, relaxing atmosphere and the city is considered by many to be the most beautiful in all of Ecuador.
- Today you will enjoy a city tour to discover the beauty and charm for which Cuenca has been recognized as a World Cultural Heritage Site. A walking tour in the colonial downtown area of Cuenca will allow you to delight in the warmth and hospitality of its people, the colorful parks and plazas, religious monuments, and handicraft shops while learning about the city’s history.
- In the afternoon you will depart from Cuenca and head toward Guayaquil, stopping at the lovely Cajas National Park along the way, located about 30km northwest of Cuenca. The park offers various activities that will meet the desires of each and every traveler. You can choose between hiking, fishing, bird-watching, viewing the rich and colorful flora and fauna, and more. You may also visit the Interpretation Center close to La Toreadora Lake – the largest lake of the park – where pictures and presentations of the reservation are displayed.
- Later, you will continue on toward Guayaquil where you will check into your comfortable Guayaquil Hotel. You are free to spend the evening as you wish, resting at your hotel, or exploring the city and its lively nightlife.
Day 5 : Depature from Guayaquil

After breakfast at your Cuenca hotel you will depart for the city of Gualaceo. After breakfast at your hotel, you will head toward Guayaquil’s historical park located in Canton Zamborondón, only 30 minutes from the city. It is one of the biggest parks in the country and offers travelers an opportunity to learn more about the culture, history, and traditions of the city.
There are three main parts to the park: the Traditions Zone, the Wildlife Zone, and the Urban Architectural Zone, each covering approximately 46 acres (19 hectares). The Wildlife Zone gives you the chance to observe various species of animals and learn more about the flora and fauna of the area. The Traditions Zone demonstrates the native rural architecture of the Montubio (native people) as well as labor instruments, clothing, household items, and other daily life objects of this community.

Half -Day Teleferico Tour
Watch Quito from above with this half day tour to the recently inaugurated TeleferiQo. This cable car located on Cruz Loma, a hill on the slopes of the active Pichincha Volcano, takes off at 9,680ft and reaches 13,284ft. On clear days, travelers can catch a glimpse of snow capped volcanoes in the distance from the lookout point. This optional excursion is highly recommended and is usually one of the highlights of Quito for travelers. From the lookout point, there is a trail that leads up to the very peak of the volcano, although this is only recommended for strong hikers. Horseback riding can also be found along the route, but most people are happy to enjoy the stunning views and grab a bite to eat or a hot chocolate at one of the restaurants at the top. This can also be a great activity for families with children as there is a small amusement park at the base of the TeleferiQo.
