Discover the best of the Andes on this exciting Ecuador tour. From the Andean capital of Quito you will head south through the mountains to the highest active volcano in the world, Cotopaxi, and then continue on to the lush mountain town of Baños famous for its waterfalls and thermal baths. You will return to Quito for your flight to Cuenca, arguably the most beautiful city in the country, before ending your tour in the coastal city of Guayaquil.
This route will allow you to explore the colonial architecture of UNESCO World Heritage Site Quito, Ecuador’s capital surrounded by volcanoes, and arguably one of the most spectacular settings of any city on the planet. Cotopaxi will inspire you to reach new heights with its perfect snow-capped cone, before you head to Baños, the outdoor playground of South America. Cruising along the stunning highway of waterfalls in Baños and hiking through sub-tropical terrain is only made better by relaxing in some of the natural hot springs throughout the small town under an Andean night sky.
Once you have had your fill of Baños, you will fly over the Andes to Cuenca, a pleasant and flower-filled colonial city famous for its picturesque streets, UNESCO recognition, and the production of some of the finest Panama hats in the world. Day 1 : Arrival to Quito & Quito Tour
- You will be met at the airport by a Peru For Less representative and taken to your comfortable Quito Hotel. Once you are fully rested and acclimatized to the high altitude, you can choose to go either on a Quito City Tour or a Mitad del Mundo Tour, located just outside the city.
- The Quito City Tour will take you into the historic center, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1978. You will enjoy a panoramic view of Alamada Park and the Basilica before taking a stroll down the Street of the Seven Crosses (Garcia Moreno) named for the seven stone crosses the Spanish erected after conquering the city.
- From here you will head to beautiful, flower-filled Plaza Grande, also known as Independence Square, dominated by a Cathedral adorned with plaques celebrating the city’s founding fathers. The plaza is surrounded by some of the most exquisite buildings in Ecuador such as the Presidential Palace and the famous La Compania de Jesus. West of Plaza Grande is Plaza de San Francisco, renowned for its spectacular setting in the shadow of Volcano Pichincha. Here you will take a tour of the historically rich San Francisco Church and Monastery, dedicated to the patron saint of the city.
- The second tour option takes you to Mitad del Mundo (Middle of the World), about 45 minutes from Quito, where the Equatorial Monument stands. The monument was built between 1979 and 1982 to mark the place where a French expedition located the equator in the 17th century. Mitad del Mundo has almost become a little village with shops, restaurants, and various museums inside the gates. You may also want to visit the Ethnographic Museum and Scientific Museum.
- After your tour, you will return to your hotel and have the remainder of the day to spend at your leisure in Quito.
Day 2 : Cotopaxi Tour & Arrival to Baños
- After breakfast at your Quito hotel, you and your guide will begin the scenic drive to the Cotopaxi National Park, winding through the Avenue of the Volcanoes and its towering peaks lining the road. With its perfect snow-covered cone, the Cotopaxi Volcano is one of the main landmarks in Ecuador and the highest active volcano in the world.
- The diverse landscape is rich with various flora and fauna and you will have a chance to spot chuquiragua (Mountaineer´s flower), wild horses, llamas, and deer. You will also have the opportunity to visit Limpiopungo Lake, near Rumiñahui volcano, or take a scenic hike before eating lunch in a traditional hacienda (optional).
- In the afternoon, you will arrive in the charming city of Baños, nestled between the Rio Pastaza and the Tungurahua volcano, and check into your comfortable Baños Hotel.
- You will be free to explore Baños and its many attractions, as well as try some fine regional cuisine in one of the myriad restaurants in the city, or simply enjoy a quiet evening at your hotel.
Day 3 : Baños Waterfall Tour & Return to Quito
- In the morning, meet your guide at your hotel for a tour of Baños’ numerous hot springs, thermal baths, and enchanting waterfalls.
- Baños is named after the Church of the Virgin of the Holy Water (Nuestra Señora del Agua Santa) which is a widely sought place of pilgrimage. The church was built in Gothic style from volcanic rock at the start of the century.
- After a short tour of the city center, you will begin the route of waterfalls which includes some of the most spectacular falls in the region: Agoyan, Puertas del Cielo (Heaven’s Door), Manto de la Novia (Wedding Veil), Pailón del Diablo (Devil’s Cauldron), Machay, and many more. There, you will have the opportunity to ride the new cable car that takes you right over the waterfalls (Manto de la Novia), giving you unique views from above (optional).
- The temperate subtropical weather that characterizes Baños makes it a perfect base for exploring the great Ecuadorian outdoors. Choose among the many activities that are offered in the region such as mountain biking along the route of the waterfalls, canyoning, hiking, or rafting (optional).
- In the afternoon, you will return to Quito where you will check into your comfortable hotel. You will be free to spend the evening as you wish in this vibrant Andean city.
Day 4 : Arrival to Cuenca & Cuenca Tour
- After breakfast at your hotel, you will be taken to the airport for your flight to the colonial city of Cuenca. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your comfortable Cuenca hotel to settle in before beginning your city tour. Although Cuenca is Ecuador's third largest city, it still retains its pleasant provincial air.
- Today you will enjoy a city tour to discover the beauty and charm for which Cuenca has been recognized as a World Cultural Heritage Site. This walking tour in the colonial downtown area of Cuenca will allow you to delight in the warmth and hospitality of its people, the colorful parks and plazas, religious monuments, and handicraft shops while learning about the city’s history.
- In the afternoon, you will visit a workshop where some of the highest-quality Panama hats are made. Cuenca is one of the largest producers of the famous and classically elegant Panama hat. You will then enjoy a drive to Turi Hill for spectacular views of the city and countryside.
- In the evening, you will be free to explore Cuenca on your own and taste the delicious regional cuisine in one of the many restaurants downtown, or rest at your comfortable Cuenca Hotel.
Day 5 : Cajas National Park Tour & Arrival to Guayaquil
- Today you will head toward the lively city of Guayaquil, stopping at the phenomenal Cajas National Park along the way, located about 30km northwest of Cuenca. With over 250 lakes and ponds spread across landscapes varying from desolate lunar looking terrain to lush cloud forest, the park offers various activities that will meet the desires of each and every traveler. You can choose between hiking, fishing, bird-watching, observing the rich and colorful flora and fauna, and more. You may also visit the Interpretation Center close to La Toreadora Lake – the largest lake of the park – where pictures and presentations of the reservation are displayed.
- Later, you will continue towards Guayaquil, where you will check into your comfortable Guayaquil hotel. You are free to spend the evening as you wish, resting at your hotel, or exploring the city and its lively nightlife.
Day 6 : Depature from Guayaquil

After breakfast at your hotel, you will head toward Guayaquil’s historical park located in Canton Zamborondón, only 30 minutes from the city. It is one of the biggest parks in the country and offers travelers an opportunity to learn more about the culture, history, and traditions of the city.
There are three main parts to the park: the Traditions Zone, the Wildlife Zone, and the Urban Architectural Zone, each covering approximately 46 acres (19 hectares). The Wildlife Zone gives you the chance to observe various species of animals and learn more about the flora and fauna of the area. The Traditions Zone demonstrates the native rural architecture of the Montubio (native people) as well as labor instruments, clothing, household items, and other daily life objects of this community.

Half -Day Teleferico Tour
Watch Quito from above with this half day tour to the recently inaugurated TeleferiQo. This cable car located on Cruz Loma, a hill on the slopes of the active Pichincha Volcano, takes off at 9,680ft and reaches 13,284ft. On clear days, travelers can catch a glimpse of snow capped volcanoes in the distance from the lookout point. This optional excursion is highly recommended and is usually one of the highlights of Quito for travelers. From the lookout point, there is a trail that leads up to the very peak of the volcano, although this is only recommended for strong hikers. Horseback riding can also be found along the route, but most people are happy to enjoy the stunning views and grab a bite to eat or a hot chocolate at one of the restaurants at the top. This can also be a great activity for families with children as there is a small amusement park at the base of the TeleferiQo.
