Machu Picchu Hotel: Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge

The Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge is all about location: it is the only hotel located inside the Machu Picchu ruins. On top of the mountain, 8,200 feet above sea level and just a couple of minutes walk from the ruins themselves, the hotel provides an inspiring vantage point within the sanctuary. The Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge was taken over by Orient-Express Hotels in 2000 and underwent a complete renovation, adding the Orient-Express touch of absolute extravagance to its interiors. Today the hotel features modern amenities, a comfortable bar-lounge area, separate dining rooms, large gardens, and many rooms now have a small terrace. There is a nice garden area with tables and chairs. This is a particularly inspiring place for hotel guests to retire to after a busy morning at the ruins. Guests will without a doubt feel the presence of the past even while being pampered in this luxury hotel with all the modern conveniences.

For one of the most scenic meals in the world, enjoy lunch in the cafeteria overlooking the citadel of Machu Picchu, where you can choose from a wide variety of dishes. There is also an indoor dining room where a delicious breakfast buffet and international cuisine are available. The Cliffhanging Snack Bar serves a range of light foods and sandwiches along with a breathtaking view of the valley below.

The Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge has 29 rooms and two suites. It is essential to book a minimum of 3 months ahead during the high season. The rooms are not especially large, but they have a good deal of Peruvian character and are adorned with lovely antiques. About one-third of the rooms have views of the ruins themselves. The other two-thirds have equally impressive and astounding views of the surrounding Andes. All rooms are equipped with a telephone, satellite television, minibar, safe deposit box and radio/alarm clock.
