Description
Tahuayo Lodge is certainly one of its kind in the Peruvian Amazon as the only lodge with access to the Tamshiyacu-Tahuayo Reserve. Located 90 miles upriver from Iquitos, about a 4-hour speedboat ride, the rustic yet comfortable accommodations offer an in-depth experience and look into what jungle life is like for the people and wildlife that depends on its resources. It is also closely associated with the Rainforest Conservation Fund which proactively works for preserving the precious natural elements of the Tamshiyacu-Tahuayo Reserve and Amazon.
A truly countless number of adventure activities to keep you entirely busy for the duration of your Amazon vacation can be organized from the lodge. These include bird watching, canoeing, canopy exploration, fishing (even for piranhas), cultural discovery, swimming with pink dolphins, shaman visits, trekking and hiking, shopping at local markets, jungle survival training, environmental conservation, and zip lining. Tahuayo Lodge also puts you right in the middle of the action regarding the incredibly diverse varieties of plants and animals that call the region their home. Guests will have intimate access to view and perhaps even interact with fauna such as pygmy marmosets (the world's smallest primates), hoatzin birds, caiman crocodiles, electric eels, unusual beetles, leaf hoppers, parakeets, macaws, giant anacondas, boa constrictors, sloths, anteaters, boat-billed herons, potoos, owl monkeys, and much, much more.
As for the lodge itself, it is run by a friendly English-speaking staff of local men and women. The guides that work with Tahuayo Lodge are extremely knowledgeable and can answer all of your questions about the Amazon, jungle culture, and the wildlife. Meals are prepared by a kitchen staff that prides itself on the pristine sanitary conditions in which they work in, so guests should have no fear of feasting on their delicious regional dishes.
Room Amenities
There are a total of 15 cabins at Tahuayo Lodge; some have a large single bed, while others have 2 beds. Family style cabins have 1 large bed and several single beds. Each cabin is set above the jungle floor and connected to each other by a raised boardwalk. Restrooms feature modern flush toilets with a sanitary septic system, and the water used in the plumbing comes from a reliable well source rather than from the river. As well, more adventurous guests can opt to venture into the jungle with one of the lodge’s guides for a camping experience. Space is also available at the nearby Research Center Lodge located in the remote forest which includes satellite services to keep you connected to the outside world.
