Puerto Maldonado Lodge: Explorer’s Inn

Situated on the Tambopata National Reserve, this rustic lodge and research station overlooks the Tambopata River and lies 37 miles (60 kilometers) upriver from Puerto Maldonado. You can even walk to the nearby oxbow lake Cocochocha, a tranquil ecosystem that supports a family of river otters and black caimans.

But be warned—with no electricity, Internet, or hot water, this lodge is about as rustic as it gets.
