Puerto Maldonado Lodge: Posada Amazonas

Jointly owned by Rainforest Expeditions and the local community of Ese-Eja, Posada Amazonas is an eco-conscious initiative dedicated to providing visitors with the most intimate Amazon experience while respecting local populations and the magnificent natural habitat of the jungle. The lodge was built using natural materials and traditional techniques, and is a testament to the local communities’ spirit of endeavor.

Description

Located less than 2 hours from Puerto Maldonado by boat, Posada Amazonas is one of the most accessible lodges in the Puerto Maldonado area. Beautifully situated within a 2,000 hectare private reserve belonging to the Infierno community, the lodge offers unique opportunities to explore the beautiful rainforest and get acquainted with its exotic inhabitants. A wide range of activities are available at Posada Amazonas, all led by expert naturalist guides residing on site.

Posada Amazonas was built with native materials and traditional architectural techniques, yet features characteristics of modern-day eco-lodges. The complex comprises 4 different sections: the rooms, the dining area and kitchen, a relaxation area, and internal support facilities. The lodge provides rustic yet extremely comfortable accommodations in a unique setting. There is no electricity and light is provided by kerosene lamps and candles scattered throughout the lodge.

Common areas and rooms are open to the jungle, perfectly blending in the splendid rainforest. They consist of a dining area, bar, reception lounge with a souvenir shop, and an interpretation center. The relaxation area is equipped with hammocks, ideal to take an afternoon nap and observe the birds and monkeys around the lodge. The floor is made of beautiful tropical mahogany wood while the ceiling is constructed with strong crisneja palm fronds.

Room Amenities

Posada Amazonas comprises 30 comfortable bedrooms beautifully decorated with wood-carvings representing stories and characters from the local community’s traditions. All rooms are spacious and only have 3 walls, leaving one side open to the forest. This luxury of sleeping within such close reach of the forest is possible in the lodge as mosquitoes are not an issue and all beds are covered with a mosquito net.

Each room boasts its own private bathroom with cold water only, separated from the bedroom by a drape. In their rooms, guests will find various eco-conscious shower products for their use. Be aware that due to the use of drapes, open wall, and other light weight materials, rooms are not soundproof.

Lodge Services & Facilities

The dining area invites guests for delicious meals prepared only with the freshest local produce. All meals are self-serve 3 courses and generally comprise soup, appetizers, salad, main course and dessert, combining Peruvian and international cuisines. Special diets can also be accommodated upon request.

The lodge provides unlimited amounts of boiled, filtered, and cooled drinking water at all times, as well as delicious fresh juice during the meals. All fruits are carefully washed and disinfected before being served.
