Puerto Maldonado Lodge: Wasai Maldonado Lodge

The lodge actually sits inside the jungle city of Puerto Maldonado. It is ideally located only 1 block from the central plaza and main attractions. The grounds feature raised bungalows built in the traditional architecture to blend in with the natural environment, and a nice swimming pool right on the banks of the Tambopata River. With spectacular views from every bungalow, the Wasai Maldonado Lodge offers excellent service in an ideal setting. Guests are nestled within the Amazon rainforest, but without the long journey down the river. This is the ideal place to stay if you don’t want to be completely isolated in the Amazon, or if you have a few nights before or after your trip to another lodge further down the river.

In between your time lounging in the pool, relaxing in your bungalow, and watching the river run by, you might want to consider going on one of the jungle excursions offered by the lodge. The small swimming pool and waterfall is surrounded by lush vegetation and boasts fantastic views of the Madre de Dios River. Guests can also enjoy a refreshing cocktail at the poolside bar. The attentive and helpful staff is always on the lookout to cater to every guest’s needs.

As well, guests can select from several half-day and full-day tours to places such as Sandoval Lake, Monkey Island, parrot clay licks, and visits to native communities. The lodge also rents bikes, fishing supplies, camping equipment, binoculars, and canoes.

Although this lodge is located within the town of Puerto Maldonado, the grounds are spacious and give the feeling of jungle isolation. Situated right next to the Tambopata River, most bungalows offer great views of the water. Located 25 meters above the river, the lodge’s restaurant serves excellent traditional and international dishes with the beautiful Amazon as a background.

The Wasai Maldonado Lodge features 18 rooms and can accommodate up to 40 people. The spacious bungalows are simply decorated and include queen-size beds, mini-fridges, hot and cold water, air conditioning (optional), fans, and a TV.
