Cusco Nightlife
As the sun sinks below the Andes, the nightlife of Cuzco swings in to action with travelers descending into the main bars and clubs of the city. Despite the tranquil and subdued nature of this deeply historical Andean town, Cuzco always has a lively nightlife due to the high numbers of travelers in the city, and this lasts well into the night with live music in abundance in many distinct venues. There are also several options for those looking for a low-key night out and the atmosphere can be quite special with stars sparkling in combination with the gentle orange glow of the city’s street lights.
Mama Africa, Portal de Harinas 2nd Floor, Plaza de Armas, Cuzco
Mama Africa is one of the most well-renowned nightclubs in Cuzco and is very popular with both local and foreign twenty-something crowd. The music and dance is the main draw, and this is particularly good for Salsa lovers though styles can range from Samba to Techno; there are occasionally live performances as well. There is a big and spacious dance floor and the bar serves drinks at a reasonable price.
Paddy Flaherty’s, Calle Triunfo 124, Plaza de Armas, Cuzco
This is a great Irish themed pub on the corner of Plaza de Armas with quality beer on tap. The atmosphere is relaxed with comfortable seating and a nice view of the Plaza de Armas. They also have excellent traditional cooking from the British Isles – shepherds pie is a delicious and hearty entrée and a perfect accompaniment to a pint.
Cross Keys, Portal Confiturías 233, Plaza de Armas, second floor
A traditional English pub that is one of the oldest in town, this is the perfect place to enjoy a few pints with some friends. It always plays a good mix of music and serves some excellent pub food. Darts are a popular past time amongst revelers here and there is live football on television for those missing the beautiful game; these ensure that the typically British pub atmosphere is retained.
Los Perros, Tecsecocha 436, Cuzco
Translated as “The Dogs”, this is a favorite amongst backpackers, no doubt because it is an excellent and funky bar with a friendly atmosphere. It is a great place to hang out with some comfy couches and refreshing exotic drinks and cocktails. They also serve some delicious food and snacks and freshly ground gourmet coffee ensuring that visitors will be drawn back. Live music often features with jazz on Sunday and Monday nights amongst the groovy mix of tunes.
Km 0, Tandapata 700, San Blas, Cusco
A warm vibe can be caught in this chilled out bar/restaurant just along from the plaza San Blas. The music captures rhythmic Latin beats and the lively painted décor reflects art in the city very well with bold colors and shapes. Intimate candlelit tables make this a cozy venue to enjoy with a partner or friends. There are regular live bands and musicians and drinks are very reasonably priced, especially during happy hour. Excellent Thai food is also available for those who fancy a quick bite.
