I'm Melissa DreffsTravel Advisor

Born and raised in small town Michigan, I caught the travel bug during my first international trip at the age of 15. I studied International Affairs and Spanish at Eastern Michigan University, and as a college student I conducted international research, studied abroad in Cuba and Guatemala, and visited Uruguay, Puerto Rico, and Mexico. Following graduation, I lived in Paris, France for 8 months learning French and working as an au pair. After traveling extensively through Europe, I’m excited to be back in Latin America and focus on Spanish. Lima, Peru is my homebase these days.

My Peru Travel Tips and Recommendations:

Take time to acclimate once you reach high altitude in the Andes.

If time permits, spend a second day at Machu Picchu. If you are able, add one of the hiking options (Machu Picchu Mountain or Huayna Picchu) to see Machu Picchu from above! Machu Picchu tends to be one of the highlights of any trip to Peru, so make sure you take full advantage while you are there.

Don’t skip over Lima! Take time to explore the capital, catch a sunset on the Malecon, and indulge in some of the best food South America has to offer.
