Peru is a treasure-trove for archeology lovers. The earliest evidence of human settlements here was discovered in the Pikimachay caves, near Ayacucho, dating back to 12,000 BC, making Peru South America’s earliest settled country. Many archeologists compare Peru’s ancient sites and treasures to those of Mexico, the Mediterranean and Egypt. The pre-Columbian cultures left no written records, only artefacts, gigantic adobe cities and pyramids, stone citadels and mysterious systems of communication and transportation. Archeologists have had to derive historical information from decoration found in ceramics, textiles and other relics of Peru’s distant past.

Beginning with the ancient city of Pachacamac, a ceremonial center for 1,000 years before becoming an Inca site, your tour will take you to the northern coast of Peru, where some of the most important Pre-Columbian findings have been made. You will continue with the well-preserved tomb where the Lord of Sipán lies, as well as the adobe Chimu city of Chan Chan (claimed as the largest adobe city in the world) and the iconic Inca citadel of Machu Picchu in addition to other historical, cultural and nature sites.
