Day 1 : Arrival to Arequipa & Arequipa Tour

- Upon arrival to the Arequipa airport, a Peru For Less representatives will meet you and take you to your confirmed hotel. Most travelers will be arriving from sea level, so it is a good idea to relax and take some time to acclimate. The historic center of Arequipa is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a walk around the central city reveals an intriguing mix of European and native elements, especially in the culture and architecture.
- Your Arequipa city tour begins at the huge central market, Mercado San Camilo. Your expert guide will help you to navigate the bustling aisles and identify local products. Other stops include Dome of San Ignacio in the Iglesia de la Compañía de Jesus and the Plaza de Armas, which boasts the iconic neo-classical Cathedral. You’ll also stop at one of Arequipa’s famous miradores (lookout points) for amazing views of the city and the surrounding geography.
- After the tour, history-loving travelers will want to stop by the Santa Catalina Convent, which began operation in the 16th century. Climb the stairs to the roof deck of the monastery for an incredible panorama of the city with Misti, the snow-capped volcano that overlooks the city, as a backdrop.
- The evening is yours to spend at your leisure. Make sure to try the delicious Arequipeñan cuisine, the pride of the region. Our Arequipa Travel Guide includes suggestions for restaurant and nightlife options.
Day 2 : Colca Canyon Tour

- After an early breakfast at your Arequipa hotel, you’ll set off with your guide to the Colca Canyon. From Arequipa, this very scenic drives goes by way of Chivay, and the ride offers the most scenic landscapes in Peru. As the car climbs to ever higher altitudes, you’ll pass through the Reserva Nacional de Salinas y Aguada Blanca, inhabited by Andean critters such as wild vicuñas and visachas, small rodents similar to rabbits.
- You’ll reach the highest pass at Patapampa, situated at 15,300 feet (4,820 meters) above sea level. Then you’ll begin the descent into the Colca Canyon. Look out for the agricultural terraces characteristic of the region as well as the Mismi and Sabancaya volcanoes.
- Upon arrival in Chivay, the guide will show you around the main square. You’ll also stop at La Casa de Mamayachi, a popular Colca Canyon lodge, to enjoy the buffet lunch (not included).

- Venturing further into the Sacred Valley, you’ll stop in Ollantaytambo. One of the most popular attractions in the region, this small village boasts an impressive role in the history of the Inca Empire. It was originally founded as the royal estate of Emperor Pachacutec and it later served as a stronghold for Manco Inca Yupanqui in the Incas’ final rebellion against the Spanish. Climb to the top of the Ollantaytambo fortress to enjoy magnificent vistas over the valley.
- Late in the afternoon, your tour will return to Cusco hotel where you can spend the remainder of the evening at your leisure.

- This evening you will enjoy a delicious dinner before tucking in early to get ready for your jungle tour at the break of dawn.

- At dawn you will venture out on a short hike to the parrot clay lick a few minutes down-river from the lodge to witness as the jungle comes to life. Later, after breakfast, you will have time to try to spot giant river otters, turtles, hoatzin, and wading birds as you explore the surrounding jungle.
- In the afternoon, an expert naturalist guide will walk with you through the forest, pointing out hidden jungle inhabitants and indigenous plants.
