Day 1 : Arrival to Lima & Lima Tour

- Upon arrival to the airport, you’ll meet a Peru For Less representative for your transfer to your confirmed Lima hotel. After you’ve settled in a rested, your English-speaking expert guide will meet you to start an exciting Lima tour.
- This Lima tour takes you to the city’s main historical and cultural attractions. You’ll start in Lima’s historic center, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where you can admire the Plaza Mayor (the central square) and the 5 important buildings that surround it: the Cathedral, the Government Palace, the Municipal Palace, the Archbishop’s Palace, and the Palace of Lima. The San Francisco Monastery, famous for its catacombs where over 250,000 bones rest, is just a few blocks away and you’ll have a chance to walk the labyrinthine passages. Your Lima tour will end with a picturesque panoramic view from Muralla Park.
- Spend the evening at your leisure. The scenic Parque del Amor (Park of Love) provides the perfect place to stroll while take in the sunset over the Pacific. It sits on the Malecon near the Larcomar Shopping Mall, which is perched on the coastal cliffs that characterize Lima’s coast. For more ideas on where to eat and what to do in Lima, consult our Lima Travel Guide.
Day 2 : Arrival to Paracas & Nazca Lines Tour

- After breakfast, you’ll meet your transfer to the bus station for your trip to Paracas. Travel time between Lima and Paracas is approximately 3h30min aboard a comfortable first class bus. When you arrive to Paracas, you will be transferred to your confirmed Paracas hotel, where you can check in and drop off your luggage.
- Transfer to the nearby Pisco airport for your flight over the Nazca Lines. Construction of the monumental glyphs has been dated to between 500 BC and 500 AD. Declared a World Heritage Site, the mysterious symbols have been the subject of study for many years but no single theory enjoys full authority. During your flight, see if you can spot the monkey, the condor, and the hummingbird. More information on the Nazca Lines can be found in our Nazca Travel Guide.
- After your Nazca Lines tour, you’ll return to your Paracas hotel, where you can relax and enjoy a gorgeous sunset over the Paracas Bay.
Note: Flights from Pisco to Nazca require a minimum of two passengers. Please contact your travel advisor for single passenger inquiries.
Due to the relatively small size of planes operating Nazca Lines tours, restrictions apply for clients who are 100kg (220lbs) or over.
Day 3 : Ballestas Islands Tour & Return to Lima

- After breakfast, the adventure continues with a boat trip to the Islas Ballestas. Humboldt penguins, sea lions, guano birds, seals, and turtles, which are rarely found at this latitude, are just some of the creatures you can spot on this 2 hour Ballestas boat tour.
- On additional highlight of this tour is the Candelabra, a 595-foot (181-meter) long drawing that resembles a candlestick. It’s so huge that it is visible from 12 miles out to sea. The Paracas Candelabra, its significance and function, is one of Peru’s greatest historical mysteries.
- After your Paracas tour, return to the hotel to collect your luggage and then transfer to the bus station for your return trip to Lima. With your newfound knowledge of Lima’s offerings, you can return and spend the evening at your leisure.
Day 4 : Arrival to Arequipa & Arequipa Tour

- Enjoy breakfast in the morning and then transfer to the airport for your flight to Arequipa, a city that will amaze you with the rolling green hills that surround it and the abundance of white sillar stone buildings that line its streets.
- One of our PFL representatives will meet you at the airport for your transfer to you confirmed Arequipa hotel. Arequipa’s altitude – though not as high as the highest point of this Peru vacation – is well above sea level, so be sure to take some time to rest and acclimate before your Arequipa tour later in the afternoon.
- Your guide will meet you at your hotel for the start of your tour of Arequipa, which will begin at the beautiful Plaza de Armas. The main square is surrounded by Spanish style arches, is lined with palm trees, has a fountain at its center, and nicely frames the immense Cathedral that sits on one end. You’ll then tour some famous mansions, many of which are intricately decorated with Baroque façades. You will also have the opportunity to stop at the bustling local market, Mercado San Camilo, to mingle with locals as they do their daily shopping.
- Though your tour ends at the market, we highly recommend a visit to the Santa Catalina Monastery during your free time. Alternatively, simply enjoy your beautiful surroundings and try the delicious Arequipeña cuisine.
Day 5 : Colca Canyon Tour

- Today, after breakfast at your hotel in Arequipa, you’ll set off on a journey to the scenic Colca Canyon. From the rolling hills of Arequipa, the road begins to climb up to Andean highlands, passing through the high elevation Salinas-Aguada Blanca National Reserve, where you can spot visachas and vicuñas. You’ll reach the high pass at Patapampa (4,890 m) and begin the descent into the valley.
- Upon arrival to the town of Chivay, you’ll go to your Colca Canyon hotel and have the rest of the afternoon to spend at your leisure. The nearby hot springs are a preferred place to relax.
Day 6 : Colca Canyon Tour & Arrival to Puno

- You’ll wake at dawn to travel further into the Colca Canyon to Mirador Cruz del Condor, a lookout point where you can spot soaring Andean condors, one of the largest flying birds in the world. The road to this viewpoint takes you past picturesque villages and pre-Inca ruins, with views of the Ampato and Hualca glaciers looming in the distance. On clear days, you may even see smoke billowing from the active volcano Sabancaya.
- You’ll arrive to Cruz del Condor early in the morning, which is when the condors are most likely to take their first flight. The canyon floor stretches nearly 4,000 feet below, offering even more excellent photo opportunities.
- You’ll then head back to Chivay to enjoy lunch and browse the local market. Later, you’ll continue by road to Puno, where you will be taken to your Puno hotel and have the evening free to spend at your leisure. Keeping in mind that Puno is at significantly higher altitude than Arequipa, travelers are highly advised to rest. Our Puno Travel Guide includes suggestions on where to eat and what to do in Puno.
Day 7 : Lake Titicaca Tour

- Your full-day Lake Titicaca tour begins with a boat ride to Uros. The floating islands of Uros are constructed by hand from totora reeds native to Lake Titicaca. The total number of islands changes as new ones are built and old ones abandoned. You’ll have a chance to meet some of the residents, visit the reed homes, learn about the local customs, and ride on reed boats. If you are in search of unique souvenirs, families generally have displays of traditional handicrafts that you can purchase.
- The next stop is the island of Taquile, renowned for its numerous pre-Inca and Inca archaeological sites. Islanders are also distinguished by their beautiful clothing and other textiles, which they weave by hand. While on Taquile, you can visit the main plaze, the museum of traditional costumes, and the ruins at the highest point of the island where you can catch an incredible sunset.
- After the tour, you will return to Puno where you can enjoy a relaxing evening, sampling the delicious Peruvian gastronomy in the many restaurants.
Day 8 : Arrival to Cusco

- After breakfast in Puno, you will be transferred to the bus terminal, train station, or airport for onward travel to Cusco, where you will be met upon arrival and transferred to your Cusco hotel. Cusco is at slightly lower altitude than Lake Titicaca. Enjoy the many fine restaurants and the Cusco nightlife at your leisure.
- If you are debating between bus and train, the two most scenic options for travel between Puno and Cusco, read about the differences between the first-class bus and the luxury train to Cusco.
Day 9 : Cusco Tour

- You’ll have the morning to spend as you wish. Shop for anything from alpaca goods to silver jewelry, explore the museums, or just wander the quaint streets of Cusco’s historic center and the bohemian quarter San Blas.
- Later in the day, enjoy a guided tour of Cusco. Within the city itself, you’ll stop at the Cusco Cathedral and Santo Domingo Church, both of which were former sites of Inca palaces. You’ll then head by car to a few of the archaeological sites in the hills above Cusco, including Sacsayhuaman and Tambomachay.
- You will return to your hotel to enjoy the remainder of the evening at your leisure; refer to our Cusco Travel Guide for suggestions.
Day 10 : Sacred Valley Tour

- Pisac is the first stop on your full-day tour of the beautiful Sacred Valley. This quiet town comes to life thanks to the artisan and agricultural markets that set up on the plaza and the surrounding streets. Travelers will find for sale all manner of alpaca goods, textiles, jewelry and small trinkets that are perfect as souvenirs. Your expert guide will also show you around the agricultural sector, identifying different types of potatoes, peppers, and other locally produced goods.
- Ollantaytambo is a marked highlight of this tour. Billed as an original Inca city, Ollantaytambo bears the influence of Inca times. Although the main attractions are the monumental terraces and the impressive temple at top, the city’s streets are also worth a look. These are perfectly orthogonal and constructed with huge stones, displaying the ingenuity of Inca urban planning.
- At the end of the tour, you’ll wind your way back to Cusco via the highlands of Chinchero. See if you can spot one of the 5 gorgeous snow- and glacier-capped peaks in the distance. On your return to Cusco, you’ll be dropped off at your hotel, where you can spend the rest of the evening at your leisure.
Day 11 : Machu Picchu Tour

- This morning, enjoy breakfast at your Cusco hotel before starting your trip to Machu Picchu. You’ll be transferred to Poroy, about 20 minutes from Cusco, and board the train heading for Aguas Calientes, the town that receives travelers on their way to the Inca citadel. The train ride has its own merits, allowing travelers a look at the changing vistas as Andean highlands transition to lush cloud forests.
- Upon arrival to Aguas Calientes, you’ll be escorted to the bus stop for the last leg of your journey to Machu Picchu, a 20 minute bus ride up the slopes of the mountain that hosts this world wonder. At the entrance, you’ll meet your expert guide.
- With your guide, you’ll spend approximately 2 hours exploring the most important sites of Machu Picchu, including those which had sacred significance. You’re sure to be astounded at the precise astronomical functions of certain constructions and impressed by the audacity of the Inca to build where they did. After the official tour, you’ll have additional time to explore on your own, and perhaps take an additional hike to the Sun Gate, the entrance to Machu Picchu for those completing the Inca Trail.
- Your comfortable train back to Cusco departs early in the evening. Alternatively, you can spend a night in Aguas Calientes in order to have a second day at Machu Picchu.
- Our Machu Picchu Travel Guide includes recommended Machu Picchu restaurants for tasty dining, as well as information on what to see and do.
Day 12 : Arrival to Puerto Maldonado

- The last segment of your journey takes you to the depths of the Peru Amazon, a landscape that is wholly distinct from the ones you’ve experienced until now. In the morning, you’ll meet your transfer for an early flight to Puerto Maldonado. From this town, you’ll board a motor boat for your transfer to your selected jungle lodge. Situated in native Ese’eja territory, the lodge is constructed using the same materials and architectural techniques of the Amazon’s native communities.
- You’ll become acquainted with the basic features of the lodge and allowed time to settle in. Enjoy your first delicious jungle dinner and spend the evening at your leisure. You’ll wake at the break of dawn for your first jungle excursion.
Day 13 : Amazon Tour

- Early this morning, you’ll meet your expert Amazon guide for a short hike to the parrot clay lick, located a few minutes down the river from the lodge. You’ll witness as the jungle comes to life with the sounds of birds and chirping insects. You’ll return to the lodge for breakfast and later in the morning you’ll continue your exploration of the surrounding jungle. See if you can spot the wading birds, giant river otter, hoatzin, and turtles that make their home on the Tambopata River.
- In the afternoon, another guided walk through the forest will give travelers a chance to spot tiny critters and indigenous plants that seek to melt into the green background of the vibrant jungle.
- Enjoy another dinner featuring Amazon cuisine. After, you can relax in your cabana hammock but if you want more adventure, you can venture on a night walk for a peek at the nocturnal creatures that come to life after dark.
Day 14 : Amazon Tour

- Another day of adventure begins at dawn at the parrot clay lick. Enjoy a filling breakfast and then begin a hike in the company of an Ese'eja native, who will offer insights into how the forest is used in their everyday life, for food, medicine, and other purposes.
- Enjoy a local meal for lunch, rest, and then embark on another hike down a trail, across a floodplain, and into a bamboo forest. The unending variety of flora and fauna you’ll encounter on this jungle trail will astound you.
- Return at dusk to the jungle lodge and indulge in your final night in the Peruvian rainforest.
Day 15 : Departure from Puerto Maldonado

Maras Moray Salt Mines Full Day Tour
The Inca archaeological site of Moray is the oldest known horticultural experimental center in the world. Each terraced level has a different micro-climate in which different crops can be grown. The circular terraces descend to 492 feet (150 meters) and the temperature difference between the upper and lower terraces is up to 59F (15C).

Sillustani Tour
On the outskirts of Puno you will find mysterious pre-Inca ruins called Chullpas (funeral towers). They sit on the windswept altiplano on a peninsula in Lake Umayo at Sillustani. The Colla people, a warrior tribe that spoke Aymara, buried their elite in giant cylindrical tombs, some as tall as 12 meters high (40 ft.). The stonemasonry is exquisite (many archaeologists and historians find them more complex and superior even to Inca engineering) and the structures form quite an impression on such a harsh landscape.
*Since the Sillustani group tour is an afternoon tour, it may be necessary to book an extra night in Puno. This depends on each individualized itinerary.

Overnight on Lake Titicaca - Amantani Island or Luquina community
Enjoy an overnight stay with an Andean family on the Amantani Island of Lake Titicaca.
Day 1: Your day will begin with an early morning pickup at 8 a.m. from your hotel and transfer to the pier where you will board your boat. After a 40-minute boat ride you will reach the man-made reed Islands of Uros. Here you will learn how the ancient Aymara people constructed these islands to escape persecution from Inca soldiers. After learning about their culture and lifestyle, you will board your boat once more and sail toward Amantani Island or to the Luquina community.
Amantani Island stay: On Amantani, your host family will greet you upon arrival and take you to your new home for lunch and a short rest. In the late afternoon you will enjoy a tour of the ruins located at the top of the island. From this point you will be able see both the Peruvian and Bolivian shores of Lake Titicaca. From there you will return to your home for dinner and a short rest before attending the optional party of music and dancing with Amantani residents.
Luquina community stay: Your hosts on Luquina Islands belong to the Aymaran community. They will welcome you into their home, where you will have the unique opportunity to discover their traditional way of life. Off the beaten path, this small community is located amidst truly breathtaking scenery. After settling in and meeting your host family, you’ll have the chance to hike to the top of the nearby mountain to enjoy a spectacular sunset on Lake Titicaca. You’ll come back for dinner and evening with your family.
Day 2: Enjoy an early breakfast before you are back on the boat for the trip to Taquile Island. Here you will hike towards the main town for a delicious lunch. Then you will continue on a challenging* hike to the other side of the island where your boat to Puno awaits.
It is important for travelers to remember that while the Lake Titicaca homestays are a beautiful and worthwile experience, they should be prepared for very basic accommodations and meals. The houses of the Amantani people are humble but warm and clean. In some cases, bathrooms are outhouses.
*This part of the tour features many up and downhill stairs. Though not extremely strenuous, the region’s high altitude may make the journey difficult for some. Therefore this tour might not be appropriate for travelers with walking difficulties and/or senior citizens.

Lima Walking Tour Around Plaza San Martin
During the presidencies of Augusto Leguía (1919-1930) and José Manuel Odría (1948-1956), the Historic Center of Lima felt the breath of modernization. Leguía celebrated the first 100 years of independence with the construction of Plaza San Martin, and a true financial center for Lima was erected. Under Odría, the avenues Abancay and Tacna were widened, and ministries moved to contemporary tower blocks.
This 3-hour walking tour begins and ends at Plaza San Martin. You will first explore all the buildings around this lovely square, which formed the center of Peruvian nightlife until the 1970s. Visitors will then walk along the Parque Universitario to busy Avenida Abancay and explore the financial district around the streets Azangaro, Lampa and Ucayali, before turning back through Jiron de la Union to Plaza San Martin.
Around 30 buildings are appreciated in detail, including the head offices of banks and insurance companies and two hotels, Bolivar and Maury. Both of these hotels claim to have invented Peru’s national drink, the delicious Pisco Sour.
