Discover the best of the Peruvian Andes and the Galapagos Islands with this amazing 9-day tour package. Starting off in Cusco, considered to be the most impressive pre-conquest city in the Americas, you will visit the pre-Hispanic and colonial city which served as the capital of the Inca Empire before traveling to Machu Picchu, one of the New Seven Modern Wonders of the World. During your time in Peru, you will also visit numerous other Inca archeological sites and towns within the Sacred Valley of the Incas.
Once you’ve taken in the splendid Andean city of Cusco, you will journey to the remote Galapagos Islands, isolated nearly 600 miles (1,000 km) off of Ecuador’s coast. In the Galapagos, whether on land or sea, there is always a surprise of nature lurking around a corner. Giant tortoises grunt in distant highlands, prehistoric marine iguanas hiss and spit sprays of salt, pink flamingos adorn the shores of hidden lagoons, flightless cormorants and tiny penguins dart amongst colorful schools of fish, while elegant tropical birds glide through deep blue skies.
With such a varied and utterly unique flora and fauna it is difficult to do justice to the ‘Galapagos Experience’ with words alone. The only way to truly appreciate this ‘heaven on earth’ is to see it for yourself.

Day 1 : Arrival to Cusco & Cusco Tour

- You will be greeted at the airport in Cusco by one of our representatives. During the drive from the airport to your Cusco hotel, you will pass many examples of Spanish colonial architecture built upon the remains of ancient Inca settlements. After arriving at your hotel, we advise you to rest for a while to help yourself acclimatize to the altitude.
- Your exploration of this remarkable city starts in the early afternoon with an expert-guided Cusco tour. You will visit many of the amazing archeological sites and wonders in and around the city, including the Cathedral (which is located on the Plaza de Armas - or the main square), and the ruins of Sacsayhuaman, Q'enko, Puka Pukara, and Tambomachay.
- You will return to your hotel in the late afternoon to enjoy a relaxing evening. We suggest enjoying the local cuisine and hospitality. Check out our Cusco Travel Guide for suggestions of great Cusco restaurants.
Day 2 : Sacred Valley Tour

- Explore the beautiful Peruvian countryside with a full-day tour of the magical Sacred Valley. First you will visit the town of Pisac, famous for its bustling market. Here you will have the opportunity to browse the beautiful handicrafts and Andean garments displayed for sale.
- Next, you will visit the impressive ruins of Ollantaytambo. These magnificent ancient ruins serve as great vantage points to look out over the valley. Originally the royal estate of Emperor Pachacuti during the Inca Empire, this site later served as a stronghold for Manco Inca Yupanqui in the Inca´s final rebellion against the Spanish.
- In the evening, you will return to your comfortable Cusco hotel. You will once again be given the opportunity to spend the evening at your leisure and enjoy some of Cusco’s many fine restaurants and bars.
Day 3 : Machu Picchu Tour

- After breakfast at your Cusco hotel, you will take a train to the hidden temple of the Incas: Machu Picchu. The train ride is an attraction in itself, as much of the path winds along the river and mountain face, offering passengers dramatic views of the Andes. The foliage dramatically changes as the train approaches the meeting point of the Andes and the Amazon rainforest, providing visitors with a real sense of Peru’s diverse geography.
- Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes, the town near Machu Picchu, you will head to the bus station for a 20-minute ride up to the secluded citadel, where you will enjoy a fascinating tour of the ruins.
- After your tour, you have the option to explore more of the site solo and capture some final photos.
- In the afternoon, you will take a comfortable train back to Cusco. If desired, you can customize this package to spend an extra night in Aguas Calientes, the town at the foot of Machu Picchu.
- Check out our Machu Picchu Travel Guide for more information on what to see and do during your Peru vacation.
Day 4 : Arrival to Quito

- After breakfast, meet your transfer to the Cusco airport for your flight out to Lima and then to Quito, Ecuador. You will be picked up at the airport and taken to your comfortable Quito hotel in the center of the city. In the evening, you will receive a briefing for your Galapagos cruise and have the rest of the evening to enjoy at your convenience.
Day 5 : Begin Galapagos Cruise

- After breakfast in your comfortable Quito hotel, you will be taken to the airport for your flight to the Galapagos Islands. Upon arrival in the Galapagos you will be picked up at the airport and taken to your confirmed Galapagos cruise ship.
- After checking in, you will enjoy a briefing by the cruise staff and a delicious welcome dinner to start off your exciting Galapagos cruise.
Day 6 - 8: Galapagos Cruise

- Explore the wonderful Galapagos Archipelago aboard your comfortable cruise ship. Depending on your ship you will follow a specific itinerary that will take you to the most beautiful islands where you will enjoy land tours guided by expert naturalists. Some Galapagos boats also offer water activities such as snorkeling or scuba-diving.
- The Galapagos Islands offer some of the best wildlife viewing in the world, not only because the animals themselves are beautiful and interesting, but also because many of the species are virtually fearless. Through a quirk of evolution, large predators failed to evolve here, resulting in a unique sense of security in the island’s animal inhabitants.
- This means that the famous blue-footed booby will perform its awkwardly elegant two-stepped mating dance right under your nose, oblivious to your camera. Mockingbirds will hop onto your shoes. Sea lions will do figure eights to show off their swimming prowess as you snorkel among them.
Day 9 : Departure from the Galapagos

- After your last breakfast aboard your Galapagos cruise ship, you will disembark and meet your transfer to the airport for your flight home or to continue to your next South American destination.
- Browse our full range of Peru travel destinations to help with your vacation plans.
