Colonial Metropolis: Lima (3 days / 2 nights)
From $209 €170 £140
Lima is Peru’s cultural melting pot, a city of nine million people that represents the full diversity of this colorful and lively nation. Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizzaro thought it the ideal spot for his headquarters, and moved the capital from Cusco in 1535. Now the city is home to a third of the Peruvian population. The ruins of Huaca Pullcana, the colonial Plaza de Armas, and other historical sites display Lima´s vibrant pre and post-colonial history. You can walk through the Spanish forts that protected the coast against English pirates, or you can stand on the seaside cliffs and watch para gliders float above the waters. In the evenings and well into the night, you can try the rich and varied Peruvian cuisine, from the freshest ceviche to the sourest Piscos. You’ll want to explore every corner of this thrilling city.
