Chelsey Rickert

I’m a Colorado native that swapped life on mainland for island living when I decided to study Psychology and Speech Pathology at the University of Hawaii at Hilo. Between my last semesters, a volunteer opportunity brought me to Peru for the first time and shortly afterwards I made the country my new home. I lived in Cusco for 4 years and then moved to Lima in 2017 where I enjoy time at the beach with my dogs and exploring the city’s great culinary and art scene. When I travel, I prefer experiences that take me off the beaten path and always bring my camera along with me.

Mikey Blount

Mikey was born in Prague to a Czech mother and US father, often moving between the two countries while growing up, which nurtured his passion for travel from a young age. While studying a degree in Psychology in the UK, he used part-time work to fund his travels around Europe and Asia. However, after one two-week field trip working on housing issues in Salvador, Brazil, he was hooked on Latin American culture, food, and lifestyle.

After finishing his Master's Degree in Social Development Practice at UCL, Mikey returned to Salvador for 5 months, teaching English at a local language school and volunteering at an NGO for kids in a disadvantaged neighbourhood. He used this time to travel further around Brazil, including Rio de Janeiro and Foz Do Iguazu, and then to Argentina, where he visited Buenos Aires.

After briefly working back home in Prague, Mikey returned to Latin America once again, to visit three more beautiful countries; Mexico, Colombia, and Peru. His stay in Peru had such a strong impression on him, he decided to go back and stay for longer and really get to know the country, the people, the culture, and all the exciting destinations Peru has to offer! Mikey’s favourite destination in Peru so far has been Lima, due to the wide range of neighbourhoods, food, and things to do. However, he also loved visiting Machu Picchu, Huacachina, and Arequipa. He is looking forward to exploring the Peruvian Amazon next!

Maribell Mormontoy

Maribell (two “ll’s” to make her unique, her father said) was born and raised in Cusco, Peru. She studied Tourism at Universidad San Antonio Abad in Cusco but after some time off traveling and working she studied Hospitality Management at San Ignacio de Loyola University.

At 19 she learned about Work & Travel exchange programs that opened her eyes to new experiences. During the winters she worked in Park City, Utah and during the summer on Nantucket Island, Massachusetts (where she would love to live) — packing and unpacking was exciting for her every time. It was on the island where she confirmed her passion for customized service and hospitality that led her to continue studying.

Besides working at well recognized and high standard hotels and restaurants she had the opportunity to visit some of the main cities in the US such as Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, with her favorites being Boston and Maui, Hawaii.

While abroad Maribell appreciated her ancestral culture more and more, the love for her people grew, and she missed the extraordinary cuisine. Now she is currently living in Lima and she proudly shows the city & other parts of Peru to her friends from other countries when they come to visit. One great dream of hers is to keep learning about other cultures and traveling farther (especially Europe and Southwest Asia) to finally be a world citizen.
